2 Days Until 2006
Dec 30th, 2005 by Ashley
Now that 2006 is coming nearer and nearer, I feel like I can actually have a “fresh new start”. I think I’ll make a resolution, but I’m not sure what it’s gonna be just yet. I’m thinking about the usual stuff: working harder, blah blahblah.
A bit before Winter Break, my friend, Serena, and I have been thinking a lot about courses over the next 3 years and even after Grade 12. We “decided” our courses for Grades 10, 11, and 12 already, and we both want 9 courses in at least 1 of those grades. The problem is, though, that the counselor said that there aren’t enough teachers so we can’t have 9 courses. She also said that she would go over everything with us, so hopefully, we’ll get our 9 courses.
If I’m not able to have 9 courses, then that’ll just ruin everything. I’ll (probably/hopefully) still have all the courses I need to graduate, but if I want to get into university and everything in the faculty I want, I might not be able to get all the requirements and everything. =( Also, for some courses, there are Prerequisites needed and if I can’t take 9 courses, then I might not be able to take some courses because I don’t have the Prerequisite. =( Sigh.
This year’s been one crazy year. Let’s see. I’ll go through from the beginning of 2005 to now.
January:
I was still meeting new people and making more friends, and I wasn’t totally and completely familiar with high school and the class changes and different teachers and everything.
I had made some friends already (from Odyssey) but wasn’t familiar with everything. I couldn’t tell them everything yet, because I only met them for a couple of months. We ate lunch together and laughed and talked, and it was fun.
I was doing okay for Term 2, but there were some areas that I wasn’t all that great in: Math, Science. I hoped to improve but I got kinda lazy.
February:
I was more familiar with the people in Odyssey, and there were some group projects, so I got to know them better.
I think it was this month or maybe a previous month where Eric started hating me and then blocked me on MSN for like, half a year. xD But now we’re okay.
I got closer to some people and farther away to others. During some times, we hated one person, but then became friends with them again, and went on to hating another person. Now, everyone pretty much is okay with one another.
March:
Spring Break was for 2 weeks, so we spent Spring Break talking to each other on MSN. The load for homework wasn’t that much, and I can’t really remember when Term 2 ended, but it was somewhere around here, I think.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get onto Honor Roll. I didn’t do as good as I did for Term 1, so I motivated myself to work harder for Term 3, even though there is no Honor Roll for Term 3.
By this time, I talked to pretty much everyone and had a fun time.
April:
I remember the first day of this month, when I decided to pull a prank on my Socials class with the help of my friends. =) Socials was the first class of Day 2, and my friends and I usually got to class early. We got the student teacher to help us as well.
When people came in, dropped their stuff on, and left, we took their binders, textbooks, pencil cases, everything, and put them in a box by the front of the room. Even when people were in the room but not looking, we took stuff. Anything we could, we took it and stashed it inside the box.
Later, the people whose stuff we’d taken would be like “Where’s my stuff? Did you see my glasses? Textbook?” Aha. It was hilarious. Then, the student teacher gave everyone back their stuff and they found out who was behind that prank.
It wasn’t a “great” prank, but it was one that we could sort of pull off.
May:
Nearing the end of Grade 8, I was quite happy, except for the tests and quizzes we had. Some of the time, the group of people would break up and have lunch with some other people, but then we all got back and ate lunch together.
June:
Ahh.. the last month of Grade 8. We had many parties but also, many tests.
I think I pretty much failed the Science final, which totally brought my mark down, but I’ll try harder this year. Everyone did poorly on the Science final.
We had a French party, Socials party, and a bunch of other ones. We watched movies, ate chips and popcorn, and all that usual partying stuff.
For some reason, none of us were “sad” to leave our friends for the summer and say good-bye. We didn’t hug or anything, like we did when Winter Break was about to start. Maybe it was because it was only Grade 8. That makes no sense but who cares. Haha.
July & August:
The summer. Some people went on vacation while others stayed here.
September - November:
After the summer was over, school started all over again. This time, it was Grade 9! Many of us are in almost all the same classes and we do projects and things together.
Grade 9 was another chance to bring up my marks, get onto Honor Roll, all that.
December:
December was here again, so fast and quick, and nearing the end of Winter Break, on the last day, there were hugs. No one hugged anyone last year in Grade 8, but now people were hugging. It wasn’t strange, but it wasn’t regular either.
There were again, parties that were a lot of fun and we played games. On the last day of school, during lunch, we sat in a group (like always) and we sang Christmas carols. Later, more people came and we all sang Jingle Bells so loudly, the Grade 10’s were staring at us. It was really fun though.
Then, on the Saturday after school ended, Serena jetted off to China. She’ll be back on New Year’s though, so it’s all good.
